Jamshedpur, April 4: Here?s a good reason why you should shake off your early morning blues and step into your jogging shoes.
After Joggers? Park at Sonari, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) has taken up the project of laying down a track on the Kadma-Sonari Link Road for citizens to jog their way to good health.
Christened the Walkers? Track, the stretch will span about 1.9 km and will be laid with pre-cast blocks each with a width of five metres.
?We felt that there was a need to develop this picturesque area to suit the need of the residents. Keeping in mind the fast growth in the area, we thought that a joggers? stretch would be useful for the people living in and around the place. A lot of people use this stretch for jogging in the morning,? Kanwal Midha, general manager, town services, Jusco, said.
Officials of the planning department at Jusco informed that the stretch, whose base is being prepared at the moment, will cost them somewhere about Rs 25 lakh and will be shaped like a dog?s bone ? a straight patch with ends being rounded off in semi-circles.
?The blocks would be made of concrete and we chose this particular shape to give the track a colourful and bright look,? said the official-in-charge of this project.
?We are looking forward to completing the track in the next 30 days. Anyway, we would want to finish it off before the rainy season as leaving an uneven ground will result in a lot of accidents,? Midha added.
?After Joggers? Park for the people of Sonari, we identified this area, as a lot of people, including veterans, use this track for their daily morning walk,? pointed out Midha.
The stretch comes as a boon to people who regularly walk down the stretch during the morning and evening hours.
?It is certainly a good project. I have been bit irregular with my walks but I would certainly be more regular once this road is completed,? said Sunita Banerjee, a danseuse from the city and a resident of the area.
But a few residents have also floated a word of caution. ?The track would certainly be a boon keeping the safety part in mind but people must also ensure that they wear thick rubber-soled shoes while walking on the stretch. Else they might develop knee problems in the long run,? Sanjeeva Singh, the secretary of the Jharkhand Archery Association and a resident of Pardi Road situated near the construction area, said.
