Tribals get new ?friends?

Dumka, March 27: The new Left ?friends? of the controversial former parliamentarian and Adivasi Adhikar Morcha (AAM) convener, Salkhan Murmu, today came to his rescue.

A large number of CPM and CPI activists were present at the AAM rally organised to protest against the alleged government injustice towards the tribal population. Many also carried red flags and placards with anti-Arjun Munda and anti-Babulal Marandi slogans.

Addressing the rally, CPI MP from Hazaribagh, Bhubaneshwar Mehta, appealed to the people to come forward as ?their fundamental rights were being curbed? because of the ?well-planed conspiracy hatched by the government?.

CPM state secretary Ganshanker Mozumder said the party has fought several legal battles over such cases, but this issue would be resolved only by a ?mass revolution?.

In his keynote address, Salkhan claimed that the rally would ?change the political dimensions? in the Santhal Pargana. The government and the Opposition continue to ?adopt anti-tribal policies?, he said, and the AAM now has the opportunity to ?uproot? the Munda government.

?Our task became easier as the Left parties, which have a consolidated support base in this region, have promised to support the cause of the tribals,? he added.

Though CPM?s Sitaram Yechuri and Prakash Karat and CPI?s A.B. Bardhan were scheduled to address the rally, the death of Anil Biswas ruled out that possibility.
