Panel plea on ST status
The
committee on welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes
and Other Backward Classes of the Meghalaya Assembly has asked
the state government to write to Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura
and Assam to recognise Khasi, Jaintia and Garo as Scheduled
Tribes in their states.
As there is no OBC list in Meghalaya, the commi-ttee has asked
the government to identify the communities which would fall
into that category.
New mall
The Millennium Centre in Aizawl is expected to be completed by May this year. The shopping complex will house 305 shops.
Bamboo plants
M.S. Haque, DGM of Nabard, said the bank has prepared an area development scheme for bamboo cultivation in private wastelands.
Arunachal firm
Environment-friendly fire resistant houses made of processed bamboo from Arunachal Pradesh will be installed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Aru-nachal Plywood Industries Ltd has bagged the order.
Revenue loss
The public accounts committee of Manipur Assembly reported that incorrect grant of exemption of stamp duty and registration fee has resu-lted in a loss of revenue to the tune of Rs 8.69 lakh.
Joint project
A total of 570 villages in Meghalaya will be covered under the Livelihood Improvement Project, a joint project of the Meghalaya government and International Fund for Agricultural Development.
Fish farming
Meghalaya chief minister D.D. Lapang said the government would provide more funds for fish farming in the state.
Tripura debt
The Tripura government?s total debt liability has reached Rs 4,600 crore, finance minister Badal Chowdhury said in the Assembly.
Mizo teachers
An MoU was signed between the Mizoram school education department and University of Cambridge International Examinations along with two of its affiliates on Friday for training teachers in the state.
