New poll booths
Calcutta, March 12: About 4,800 auxiliary polling booths will be set up to accommodate 8.5 lakh new voters.
According to an Election Commission directive, up to 1,400 people can vote in a booth. The chief electoral officer said the additional booths will be set up wherever the voter count has crossed that mark after the revision of rolls. There are 48,385 booths in Bengal. The new ones will be located close to them and will not have separate presiding officers.
Goon held
Calcutta: Ram Singh, a close associate of gangster Gopal Tiwari, was arrested from Burrabazar on Sunday. Detective department officers picked him up from a hideout. Tiwari was arrested last year.
