Rs 65 cr for road repairs

Kohima, March 7: The DoNER ministry has sanctioned Rs 65 crore to develop roads in the underdeveloped regions of Nagaland.

Chief secretary Lalhuma today announced that the allotment has been sanctioned jointly by the Centre and the state government.

The grant is meant for constructing roads in Tuensang and Mon districts, as well as certain pockets of Wokha district.

Bhandari and Sanis areas of Wokha, located along the Assam border, are totally cut off from the rest of the country because of poor road connectivity.

The state government has also allocated Rs 15 crore for the newly created department of the underdeveloped areas this year. An additional sum of Rs 6.2 crore has been allotted by the Centre for various other schemes.

This includes Rs 3.25 crore for underdeveloped pockets like Bhandari in Wokha, Meluri in Phek district and parts of Zunheboto district, the chief secretary said.
