Inter-Bank Cricket
Guwahati, March 6: Union Bank and Postal Department today registered contrasting wins in their respective league matches in the 19th Girish Chandra Goswami inter-bank cricket tournament at Latasil Ground here.
While Union Bank posted a marginal seven-run win over UCO Bank, Postal trounced Life Insurance Corporation of India by 66 runs.
Union Bank elected to bat and were all out for 124 at the end of the 20th over. In reply, UCO Bank were restricted to 117 for seven in 20 overs. Murari Majumdar (17) and Surya Baroowah (16) were the notable scorers for Union Bank while Manish Bhowmick and Bikram Basfore of UCO Bank shared three wickets each conceding 24 and 20 runs respectively. Taher Ahmed captured two for nine.
For UCO Bank, Nabadeep Saikia topscored with 29 while Manish Bhowmick chipped in with 18 runs. S. Raha remained unbeaten on 19. S.S. Rahman and Pritam Chelleng of Union Bank shared two wickets each for 13 and 24 runs respectively.
In the afternoon match, Postal Department batted first and were bundled out for 84 in 15.4 overs.
However, the LICI men could not defend the paltry target and were skittled out for only 18 runs in 6.1 overs.
For Postal, Bitopan Dutta topscored with 31, while Avijit Das contributed 17. Debashish Dastidar of LICI scalped five for 15 and was backed up by Parag Das and Tiken Sharma with two wickets each. Raju Mukherjee of Postal was the demolition man, having notched five for eight runs. Pranab Kakoti scalped three for only one run.
General Insurance Company meet Nabard and UCO Bank play BSNL tomorrow.
The tournament is being organised by the UCO Bank Staff Club.
