Doctors’ strike

Mumbai, March 2 (PTI): The Maharashtra government has given striking doctors in Mumbai time till Friday morning to resume duty, after which they will face “stringent action”.

“There will be no further extension of the deadline and if they fail to abide by the deadline, we will take strict action against them,” medical education minister Dilip Valse Patil said.

On Wednesday night, the government had invoked the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act against the resident doctors

Virus alert

New Delhi (PTI): The department of IT has warned of a computer virus, Nyxem, being activated on the third day of every month mainly to attack Microsoft operating systems.

Precautions advised are:

• Do not open suspicious e-mails. Block e-mails with subjects and attachments such as w32.Blackmal.E

• Send and receive e-mails in plain text

• Block executable and unknown file types.

• Backup all important files and apply security updates

• Do not visit unknown websites and download software of unknown origin.

Rape axe

B> Chandigarh: The Haryana government has sacked four schoolteachers accused of raping students after a probe, reports our correspondent. The teachers, from three schools, had earlier been suspended. But, after a state education department probe found them guilty, “we have dismissed them so that they cannot even draw their salaries”, an official said.

Train trouble

Jammu (PTI): The Jammu Tawi-Jaipur Pooja Express overshot while switching tracks and hit a cemented stoppage wall at Jammu station on Wednesday. No damage or injury was reported. The accident happened allegedly because of the driver’s misjudgement.

Advocate row

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has granted two more weeks to the bar association to amicably sort out the row involving two woman advocates and Justice S.N. Dhingra. The two had accused the judge of abusing woman advocates and casting aspersions on them.

Maoist review

New Delhi: The Centre has decided to send home secretary V.K. Duggal to review the situation at Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district where Maoists killed 27 tribals on Tuesday. The rebels blew up a truck carrying the villagers.
