Wedding raid

Krishnagar, Feb. 25: A gang of seven stormed a wedding, barely 200 metres from a police outpost, late last night and went on a looting spree holding guests at gun-point .

The bride and the groom had just sat down to have dinner with other guests around 11.45 pm when the dacoits broke into the marriage hall in Nadia districtís Gobindopur village, about 110 km from Calcutta.

They assaulted the newly-weds and took away their jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and Rs 10,000 in cash.

Student dies

Midnapore: A Madhyamik candidate died after suffering a heart attack on her way to the examination centre on Saturday. Tulsi Bera, 16, was taken to the Digha state general hospital, where she died. A doctor at the hospital said the girl suffered internal haemorrhage and became senseless on her way to Digha Vidya Bhavan, one-and-a-half km from her home.

Doc protest

Berhampore: Over a dozen doctors ceased work for two hours at Lalbagh sub-divisional hospital in Murshidabad on Saturday to protest the alleged assault on a physician by members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, the CPMís youth wing.
