Guwahati, Feb. 19: An embattled Raj Bhavan has convened a meeting of the executive council of Gauhati University tomorrow to sort out the controversy arising out of the governor?s directive to award grace marks to 12 MBBS examinees.
Soon after his return to the capital in a special Indian Air Force chopper from Calcutta this morning, governor Ajai Singh asked his office to ?update? him on the furore surrounding his order to the university in his capacity as the chancellor. The university council has requested him to reconsider his decision.
Sources said Singh has also asked for Dispur?s stand on the issue. Yesterday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi openly expressed his reservations on Singh?s remarks on the peace process and also his decision to award grace marks to 12 students who had failed to clear the 2005 MBBS Part II examination.
?The governor has asked us to prepare a note on the stand taken by various quarters over the grace marks issue. He may also add something of his own. As things st-and today, the issue will be amicably resolved by tomorrow,? a Raj Bhavan source said.
The meeting is likely to be stormy. The source said the university executive council is firm on its decision to seek a review of the governor?s order while the Gauhati Universtiy Teachers? Association has decided to protest if Raj Bhavan tries to impose its decision.
