Sensex hits new peak

Mumbai, Feb. 13: Capital goods stocks fuelled the sensex rally as it touched a new peak of 10182.77 points, a record intra-day high. The Bombay Stock Exchange?s bellwether index rose 62.28 points, or 0.6 per cent, to close at 10,173.25, surpassing the record of 10110.97 set on February 10. The nifty gained 13.60 points, or 0.5 per cent, at 3041.15.

Gold price

Mumbai, Feb. 13: Gold prices continued to fall and plunged by another Rs 285 per 10 gram on the bullion market today. Silver also fell sharply by Rs 140 per kilo. Standard gold opened at Rs 7900 and ended at Rs 7905 against its previous close of Rs 8190. Pure gold closed at Rs 7945. Ready silver also closed at Rs 13,335 against its previous close of Rs 13,475.

Mittal bid

New Delhi, Feb. 13: Luxembourg?s bid to thwart Lakshmi Mittal?s takeover of rival Arcelor is likely to figure in the discussions of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with French President Jacques Chirac, who will visit India next week. However, it was too early to say at this stage in what form the matter will be raised, sources said.

Mumbai, Feb. 13: Maxwell Industries Ltd will issue three bonus shares for every four held and split the company?s stock in a ratio of 1:5.

Telecom tariff

New Delhi, Feb. 13: Telecom operators have sought regulatory authority Trai?s permission to change the tariffs under their lifetime services schemes in accordance with revisions in regulatory terms and conditions.
