Exam centre stays unchanged

Balurghat, Feb. 1: The Central Board of Secondary Education has refused to shift the board examination centre of Atreyee English Medium School, thanks to which students will be forced to travel 250 km to and from the venue every day.

The examination centre for Class X and XII students of the school in South Dinajpur has been fixed at Kendriya Vidyalaya at Mirual, which is 125 km away and in another district (North Dinajpur).

The school authorities and politicians reportedly tried to make the CBSE authorities change their decision, but to no avail. The board?s controller of examinations, Pabanesh Kumar, made it clear that the shift was because exams were not conducted ?fairly? at the home centre. ?Now, it is impossible to change the venue. If there are other CBSE schools nearby, the centre can be shifted, but we cannot allow the students to take the tests at their own school ? we want a fair exam, while we had complaints to the contrary,? Kumar had said over phone from Delhi.
