Rs 50000 for elephant victim kin

Dhubri, Jan. 30: The relatives of the four persons trampled to death by rogue elephants at Teldhala village, located on the inter-state border with Meghalaya recently, will be given Rs 50,000 each by the forest department.

Four persons, including one newborn baby, were killed and eight others injured by a herd of five elephants at the village under Mancachar police station of Dhubri district on the night of January 16. The herd also damaged 25 houses.

Of the eight seriously injured, three were shifted to Tura hospital and the rest are still undergoing treatment in Gazarikandi primary health centre.

Official sources said till now no one has made any claim for the compensation to the forest department. But officials visited the village and collected information and were completing formalities for payment of the amount.
