| Eviction bar before polls The Election Commission has directed the state government not to conduct any eviction drive in the city and elsewhere until the Assembly elections. The commission believes that an eviction drive will displace voters from the area where they are enlisted. Truck kills motorcyclist Swapan Roy, 35, was killed and his associate was injured on Sunday when the motorcycle they were travelling in was hit by a truck on Diamond Harbour Road near Thakurpukur. Both were taken to a local hospital, where Roy succumbed to his injuries. His associate was stated to be in a serious condition. Civic staff plea Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) has sought help from Kasba police station for the protection of an employee of the Tolly tax department. Chandan Bhattacharya, the employee, and his family is allegedly being threatened by some neighbours. hattacharya had prepared a list of all unassessed buildings in the area. The buildings included an illegal construction by a relative of an employee of the Borough XII office at Garfa, who has reportedly not been transferred for the past 25 years. hattacharya, who was allegedly abused and manhandled by some local residents, lodged a complaint with Kasba police station on Friday. The deputy municipal commissioner wrote to the police on Saturday. Art camp Barisha Shakti Sangha in Behala will organise an art camp on the club premises on Monday. Tennis player Naresh Kumar will inaugurate the camp. According to Subrata Dutta, secretary of the art camp sub-committee of club, noted artists and sculptors will participate in the programme. Six students of Government Art College, Indian Art College and Rabindra Bharati University will be awarded a one-time stipend of Rs 5,000 each by the club. CPM complaint CPM state secretary Anil Biswas on Sunday submitted a complaint to chief electoral officer Debashish Sen regarding the conduct of Howrah observer N.K. Dhal. He had directed the Block Development Officer of Sankrail to take action against false voters on the letterhead of the Trinamul Congress's Howrah Committee. Bose anniversary Calcutta Doordarshan will telecast various programmes, starting 6 am on Monday, on the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. False vote Sudhir Bhakta, a middle-aged man, was detained by police on Sunday for casting a false vote during election of the managing committee of a school at Nodakhali, on the southern fringes of the city.
