Dhaka, Jan. 21 (Reuters): At least 25 people were injured in running battles between police and Opposition activists in the Bangladesh capital today, a day before a planned strike.
Witnesses said two newspaper photographers were also injured in the violence near the office of the main Opposition party, the Awami League, in central Dhaka.
Tiger threat
Sampoor, Sri Lanka (Reuters): Sri Lankas Tamil Tiger rebels will return to war unless progress is made soon in the islands deadlocked peace process, a senior rebel said just days ahead of a visit by Norwegian peace broker Erik Solheim.
Iraq oil
Ankara (Reuters): Turkish firms stopped selling oil products on Saturday to Iraq, which already suffers fuel shortages, due to $1 billion in unpaid debt, CNN Turk channel said. But the Iraqi oil ministry said part of the debt had already been repaid.
