Maruti model launch

New Delhi, Dec. 25: Maruti Udyog is all set to unveil two models from its parent Suzuki's stable at the eighth auto expo in January ' sports utility vehicle Escudo and hatchback Solio. It will also unveil a rally version of its popular car, Swift. The Escudo, launched in international markets in August, is expected to be powered by a 2-litre and a 2.7-litre engine. It is already being sold as the Grand Vitara in certain markets of Suzuki. The Solio is a variant of the Wagon R, which has special features for the disabled to carry wheelchairs and rotating seats.

Ficci chief

New Delhi, Dec. 25: Saroj K. Poddar, chairman of Gillette India Ltd, today took over as the president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci). Poddar replaces Onkar S. Kanwar of Apollo Tyres.

Tyre Corp

New Delhi, Dec. 25: While the ministry of heavy industries is scouting for a joint venture partner for Tyre Corporation of India, the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises has asked the ministry to examine the circumstances under which the post of the CMD at TCI was not filled for 10 years.

SBI strike

New Delhi, Dec. 25: State Bank of India officers and staff unions have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from mid-February if their demand for raising pension payments is not met.

Assocham

New Delhi, Dec. 25: Predicting a bright prospect for FMCG companies, Assocham said the sector is poised to grow by nearly 40 per cent to Rs 50,000 crore by 2010 from the present market size of Rs 38,500 crore.
