College closed

Krishnagar, Dec. 22: Non-teaching employees of Pannalal College in Nadia’s Karimpur forced it shut today protesting against its principal’s alleged corruption.

About 1,500 students were asked to leave as 20-odd employees gheraoed Abdul Haque, hurled abuses at him and sought his resignation.

Mid-day meal

Calcutta: Primary section students of schools for the physically and mentally challenged will get mid-day meals. A lakh children will benefit following Thursday’s decision of the cabinet.

Varsity plea

Calcutta: The high court has dismissed Kalyani University’s plea to reconsider an order cancelling a panel from which non-teaching employees were to be selected. The varsity had only called those candidates whose names were sent by the Employment Exchange, but the court wanted all eligible candidates to appear for the interview.
