Mysterious death baffles police

Hazaribagh: A burnt body of a woman, Triti Jain, was recovered from her in-laws? house in Kumhartoli locality of the town on Sunday.

Family members said Triti had committed suicide but circumstances revealed that she was first strangulated and then burnt to death.

Thirty-four-year-old Triti, wife of Sanjay Loharia alias Pappu, has a daughter and a son. The police who received information about the incident reached the house of Bhagchandra Jain Loharia, Triti?s father-in-law, on Sunday morning.

Triti?s brother-in-law Vijay Loharia said the deceased had attended a party and had returned home after shopping. ?We don?t know what had happened to her afterwards,? he said to The Telegraph. He said he and his father were sleeping on the same floor. But added that they had not heard anything ?unusual?. ?My younger brother Ajay was sleeping in his room on the ground floor and he had heard some noises. He came to first floor and raised the alarm after which we rushed to her room. But by that time she had died due to burn injures,? he claimed.

But police say that if the woman had burnt herself then there should have been marks of the flames on the walls, which were missing. The in-charge of the women?s cell, Kusum Pathak, called the case ?mysterious?. She said there were injuries on Triti?s legs, which suggests that she was dragged. ?I recovered matchsticks and a matchbox near the body. In such cases, matchbox and matchsticks are not recovered that close to a body,? she added. Triti?s parents are expected to arrive from Kanpur. Police officers said the post-mortem reports will clear all the mystery behind the incident.
