Clean chit to district hospital

Cooch Behar, Dec. 14: A five-member team of the health standing committee of the Assembly that visited Maharaja Jitendranarayan District Hospital here today, was reportedly happy with the operation of the hospital.

Manoranjan Patra, who led the delegation, told newspersons that they did not find ?anything wrong? at the hospital and said the team was quite ?satisfied? with the functioning of the different departments and wards.

The delegation chief said they would recommend the introduction of a ?sick new-born care unit? here at the earliest to the government.

Later in the day, the team participated in a seminar on the prevention of AIDS held at the conference room of the zilla parishad. Cautioning the audience against ?unprotected sex?, Patra stressed on the need for sex education in school, in order to spread the awareness on ?safe sex?.

Sabhadhipati of the zilla parishad Ananta Roy, district magistrate Ravi Inder Singh, block development officers and the panchayat samiti sabhapatis were also present at the meet.

According to the health karmadhaksha of the zilla parishad, Sasadhar Barman, the seminar was the first sincere effort to involve panchayat samitis in creating awareness against the deadly disease.
