Sensex at new peak
Mumbai, Dec. 12: The sensex today breached the 9100-mark for the first time and touched an intra-day high of 9,175.60. Stock market barometer BSE 30-share sensitive index ended the day at a new peak of 9,133.67 against Friday?s close of 9,067.28, a net gain of 66.39 points or 0.73 per cent. Hectic buying by operators and mutual funds had fuelled the day?s rally.
Opto Circuits
Bangalore, Dec. 12: Opto Circuits (India) Ltd, manufacturer of non-invasive healthcare equipment, has acquired German firm Eurocor in a Rs 59.91-crore deal. The buyout gives Opto access to the global stents market.
Suzuki name
New Delhi, Dec. 12: Delhi High Court today restrained 10 Indian firms from using the word Suzuki in any form. Passing an ex-parte interim injunction in favour of Suzuki Motor Co, Justice Swatanter Kumar asked the defendant firms to file their replies by January 6.
Birla case
Calcutta, Dec. 12: The Birlas today questioned the maintainability of Rajendra Lodha?s application before Calcutta High Court, which alleged that certain jewellery belonging to late Priyamvada Birla was lying with some members of the Birla family.
Thomas Cook
Dubai, Dec. 12: A government-owned investment firm of Dubai is expected to buy the Indian unit of Thomas Cook for $127 million, Gulf News reported today.
