Jailer suspends staff

Hazaribagh: Jailer Bhola Nath Pandey of Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail on Friday took ?strict? action against seven employees for allowing a police team to enter its premises without fulfiling required norms. Pandey suspended assistant sub-inspector Sukhdev Rai and constable Nageshwar Ram from duty besides serving show cause notices to five others. Pandey, also forwarded a report to senior officials in Ranchi against the raid and refuted charges of corruption. Jail superintendent Purushottam Thakur, who was charged with corruption charges also refuted them in an exclusive interview with The Telegraph on Friday.

No cake for Sonia

Ranchi: It was a birthday celebrations without cakes or sweets. ith Sonia deciding to be with the earthquake-hit victims in Jammu and Kashmir on her 58th birthday, the state Congress members had no other option but to settle for simple celebrations. The occasion was celebrated by lighting 58 candles in front of Sonia?s portrait at the party headquarters at Shradhanand Marg.

House burnt

Giridih: At least six people were injured when some robbers set a house ablaze at Dubeydih under Bengabad police station on Thursday night. Property worth Rs 40,000 was also destroyed in the fire. The house belonged to Mussarraf Mia. olice sources said Mussarraf, a local resident, had allegedly kidnapped a woman Sabina Khatoon. Mia was also arrested and later released on bail. Police suspect that Hattu Mia and Mattu Mia, two relatives of Sabina, set Mussarraf?s house on fire as an act of revenge.

Body recovered

Hazaribagh: A body of a doctor was recovered from a well in Ramgarh on Friday morning. The 27-year-old doctor, Rajkumar Prasad, who was to be married within a few days had been practising in Gola for the past four years. e was to be married into the family of the Ramgarh deputy superintendent of police, Sanjeev Kumar. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police sources said they would be able to decide whether this was a case of suicide only after the reports arrive.

Left dharna

Hazaribagh: Workers of CPM and CPI on Friday staged a daylong dharna against the policies of the present state government. PM district secretary Ganesh Kumar Verma, CPI president Mahendra Pathak, members Siv Kumar Shibu and Ram Prakash Mehta, all charged the NDA government for its divide and rule policy.
