Former coach out on bail
Former East Bengal coach Subhas Bhowmick, arrested on December 2 for accepting a bribe as a Central Excise officer and remanded in judicial custody, was granted bail on Friday. He was asked to furnish a bond of Rs 10,000. CBI special court judge Shankar Nath Das also ruled that Bhowmick could not leave the country without the court?s consent and would have to hand over his passport to the investigating officer by December 12. He must present himself before the sleuths every other day till December 31.
?Teaser? hacked
Dilip Mandal, in his mid-20s, was hacked to death by his neighbour Raju Mandal in Tangra early on Friday. Police said the incident occurred after Raju?s wife complained to him that Dilip had misbehaved with her. Raju has been arrested.
Tram death
Subham Bera, 19, died after being run over by a tram on Maniktala Main Road on Friday afternoon.
Plastic ban
Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi has decided to ban the use of plastic on the Raj Bhavan premises. Officials have been asked not to use plastic cups or carry polybags less than 40 micron thick.
Parking fees
The Calcutta Municipal Corporation has revised parking fees. The parking zones have been divided into three categories ? A,B and C ? and the rates fixed at Rs 10, Rs 7 and Rs 5, respectively.
Maidan probe
Acting on a plea by environment activist Subhas Dutta, Calcutta High Court on Friday asked an assistant commissioner of police to verify whether leaves were being burnt on the Maidan.
Remand
Four undertrials, who had fled the Salt Lake SDJM?s court on Thursday and were caught a few hours later, were on Friday remanded in police custody till December 15.
