Mehtab gives India winning start

Calcutta: Buoyed by a brace from Mehtab Hussain, India started their SAFF Cup campaign by registering a 2-1 win over Nepal in their group B match in Karachi on Thursday.

According to information received here, Mohun Bagan captain Mehtab put the Indians in lead quite early in the sixth minute. The Indians didn’t enjoy the lead for more than four minutes. Basanta Thapa found the equaliser in the 10th minute.

India again shot into the lead through Mehtab in the 27th minute.

In another group B tie, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 3-0. Ariful Kabir Farhad scored a couple in 42nd and 59th minutes. Zahid Hussacompleted the tally two minutes from time.
