Surprise event
TAKE THAT: Teachers of Delhi Public School, Risali, perform
on Childern’s Day

The students of Delhi Public School, Risali, were in for a pleasant surprise on the morning of November 14. We suspected nothing as we came to school and trooped into the hall for the usual morning assembly. The boring Monday test, too, came at the usual hour.

But our teachers had deliberately planned it that way. So when the silence on the campus was broken by O papadwale ? the voice belonged to one of our teachers, Bindu Mockoul ? the floodgates of fun opened. The programme started with a student-teacher debate presented as a qawwali with our male teachers stepping into our shoes. A skit in Hindi followed, after which our history teacher recited a hilarious poem that was penned by all the teachers together. We also had a great time watching our maths, chemistry, English and physical education teachers dance.

Our hearty applause must have told our teachers how much we enjoyed the programme.

Celebrating Einstein

The department of physics of Cachar College organised a series of events on November 23 and 24 to mark the centenary of Albert Einstein?s ?Theory of Relativity?. Colleges across the region participated in the two-day fest that started with a seminar on astrophysics conducted by Prof. P. Chakraborty of Assam University.

Students took part in the science exhibitions. In addition, there were extempore speaking and physics quiz contests. While our college dominated the extempore round, Surendra Memorial Junior College stood first in the quiz, followed by G.C. College and our college in the second and third places respectively. The concluding item was a special Rabindrasangeet recital by our teacher, Subhoprasad Nandi Mazumdar, and principal, Dr Debasis Kar.

Welcome waltz

The Institute of Genetic Engineering in Madhyamgram organised a grand welcome party for its freshers on November 16. Keeping the theme of the evening in mind ? music, hip-hop and loads of fun ? the party was named Genextacy 2005. Our president, Narayan Basu, delivered the welcome address and then the students took over with some rocking performances. But the real star was DJ Poison whose remixes turned the college campus into one big dance floor. As freshers, our joy knew no bounds. Thank you, seniors!
