Jawans in net

Barasat, Nov. 27: Five BSF jawans were arrested last night from a brothel in Naihati in

North 24-Parganas after they allegedly beat up a couple of sex workers.

Police said the jawans went to the brothel at Thakurpara near Naihati and got into a brawl over payment. Two women, who said they were injured in the skirmish, lodged a police complaint.

Fatal stunt

Calcutta: A 14-year-old died on Saturday while trying to imitate Shaktiman ? a character in a popular TV serial. Sukhendu Neyban, who hanged himself with a sari, was performing the stunt for cousin Subhendu at his home in Kadwip in South 24-Parganas, about 70 km from here.

Girl run over

Bolpur: A seven-year-old girl was run over by a lorry on Sunday at Kamarpara village, about 240 km from Calcutta. Rakhi Bagdi was crossing the road around 7.45 in the morning when the mishap took place. Police said over 200 villagers blocked the Labhpur-Kirnahar road, disrupting traffic for over two hours. The driver of the lorry is absconding.

Wife suicide

Krishnagar: Laskmi Halder, 25, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling in her house at Ukilpara, about 85 km from Calcutta, following a quarrel with husband Prabir, a primary school teacher. The couple has a five-year-old daughter.
