New entry in fashion world

Siliguri, Nov. 24: What would Britney Spears wear in Scotland?

Students of National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFD), Siliguri, will attempt to answer the question during their annual graduating fashion show to be held at the Soubhagya Palace lawns on Saturday.

The show will have models from Calcutta and Siliguri sashaying down the ramp sporting the students? own creations. The students are working on 11 different themes which include Mr and Mrs India, African Safari and Britney in Scotland.

?The themes pertain to different styles and tradition of clothing,? explained Kuntanil, the centre-in-charge, NIFD. ?For example, Britney in Scotland will showcase skirts.?

In keeping with the growing fashion consciousness of the town, the organisers have roped in a bigwig from the glamour industry for the show: Calcutta-based Sharbari Dutta, one of the few Asian women designers to have made her name in men?s wear, will act as the judge.

?This is the first time that a designer of international repute will be present at a fashion event in Siliguri,? claimed Kuntanil. ?This shows that the fashion world in Siliguri is growing bigger.?

Kuntanil added that the town has only recently started retailing internationally famous designer labels like Satya Paul.
