Established in 1967, the Sardar Patel College of Communication and Management (SPCCM) offers one-year postgraduate diploma courses in communication and management. Affiliated to the Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication and Management, the institute is under the aegis of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a charitable trust founded by Dr K.M. Munshi in 1938.

Besides communication and management, Sardar Patel College offers two other courses ? a diploma in videography and a postgraduate diploma in television production. In order to be eligible for the videography course, you are required to have passed your Plus-Two level while the television production course needs you to be a graduate.

The Radio and TV Journalism speci alisation course is designed to hone your writing, editing, reporting and presentation skills. The course covers topics like mass communication and the power of media, journalism, news set-up, press laws, broadcast journalism, news writing and reporting for radio and TV news, TV presentation, media techniques, idea development, composition, script writing, video production, photography, videography, basic lighting, floor planning and budgeting, video editing, editing hardware, properties of sound, audio recording studio, computer applications for word typing, graphics and MS Office.

Theoretical training is supplemented by practical work and projects. The admission notification is published in May. Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this course, you should have a university degree or equivalent, with a pleasing personality, clear diction and good writing skills.

Entrance exam

On submission of the application form, you will be given a date to sit for the exam. The dates (you can appear for any one) are usually June 1, June 15, June 29, July 13 and July 20. The timing is generally from 11 am to 2 pm.

Pattern of exam

The entrance test includes an objective-type component to assess your general knowledge. You also have to write an analysis of a movie or a documentary that is screened.

How to prepare

You are required to have a flair for presenting an interesting topic, and documenting different events for TV. You?ll cover public meetings, sport, art, culture, social events and politics. You could watch some films and documentaries and then analyse them. To brush up your general knowledge, it is essential to read newspapers regularly and go through a GK guide like the one by Maniram Agarwal, CSR or Tata McGraw Hill publishers.
