Speaker summons Subrata

Calcutta, Nov. 9: Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim today summoned former mayor Subrata Mukherjee, against whom Trinamul Congress leader Pankaj Banerjee has lodged a complaint.

Banerjee demanded that Mukherjee be expelled from the House as he defected to the Nationalist Congress Party from the Trinamul during the May civic polls.

Suicide

Krishnagar: Deepa Biswas, 25, was found hanging along with her four-year-old daughter Disha from the ceiling of her house on Tuesday in Krishnagunj in Nadia, 110 km from Calcutta. Police said Deepa’s jobless husband, with whom she allegedly would have frequent tiffs, was not at home when the incident occurred.

Barasat: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s daughter, Upinder Singh Kaur, is in town on a private visit. Officials said she went to the historical Chandraketugarh and Khana Mihirer Dhibi at Deganga near here.

Sweep plan

Calcutta: The Salt Lake municipality has decided to abolish manual sweeping of roads and instead use machines.
