Central ride Murtaza show

Propelled by an allround show by Ali Murtaza, Central Zone registered a two-wicket win over West Zone in an under-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy match at the Jadavpur University Campus in Salt Lake on Sunday.

After having picked up four for 61, Murtaza scored a valuable 56 as Central Zone, chasing 256, made 260 for the loss of eight wickets. In another match at the Eden, South Zone defeated North by 43 runs.

Soumya Thakurta of St James? School topped the second All Bengal School Chess Championship held at the Park Institution on Sunday. Debaditya Sinha Biswas of Salt Lake Point School was second and Suman Basu of the Madhyamgram Boy?s School came third.

Central Calcutta and Hooghly will clash in the final of the (men?s) 71st State and Inter District Table Tennis Championship at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Monday.

In Sunday?s semi-finals, Calcutta defeated Siliguri 3-0. In the other semi-final, Hooghly got the better of Howrah 3-0.
