Web Watch

I had wanted this edition of the column to be on the usual suspect ' mathematics, but stumbled upon an interesting English grammar website. It is a very comprehensive website developed by an American professor of English. As you enter the homepage you'll see a note saying the professor is recovering from a surgery. So don't forget to wish the good professor an early recovery and thank him for this wonderful website.

The site is called Guide to Grammar and Writing and is part of a Connecticut-based community college. You'll have to type in the following url: http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/ to reach the homepage. Long urls are a pain but I assure you that in this case, it is worth the effort.

This website caters to everyone' whether you are a beginner or writing an essay for your college exam. Now let's take a tour of the site. Once you reach the homepage, you'll find six separate sections in a drop-down menu. Each menu has links to various sub-sections. For instance, the first section has resources on grammar at the word and sentence level. You'll find definitions and usage with detailed examples of adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, etc. Just click on any of the topics in the menu to get the details.

This website has so much to offer that it is not possible to even give a sneak peek of the content here. So I invite you to check out this site on your own. It is a great resource for anyone interested in learning the intricacies of the English language.
