Jamshedpur, Oct. 26: With incidents of frequent quarrels among policemen picking up, district police have decided to start yoga, meditation and counselling classes for its constables and junior officers to bring down work pressure.
East Singhbhum will be the first district in Jharkhand to conduct yoga, meditation and counselling sessions for policemen to ease their tension and make them act more responsibly.
The classes have also been introduced to prevent any untoward incident in the police, as it has been noticed in defence or paramilitary forces.
Sources in police department said the decision had come after two officers pointed guns at each other at Kadma police station on Tuesday, following a quarrel over the arrest of an informer.
According to police sources, many incidents, like that one which happened at Kadma police station, take place at other police stations, but most of them go unreported, as it defames the police.
?Sometime ago, a junior officer pointed a gun at his senior after an argument with him over his posting at a police station in Naxalite-infested area. However, the situation was controlled by other officers present in the chamber at that time,? said a police officer.
District superintendent of police Ashish Batra said the proposal to introduce yoga and meditation classes was under consideration in the department for past some time. However, due to some necessary engagements and posting of the constables at far off places, this was not becoming possible.
The number of police forces in the district is about 2,800, which includes an additional superintendent and five deputy superintendents. Their posting is at about 400 places that include headquarters, 32 police stations and ministers? bungalows.
?The incident at the Kadma police station has forced us to take up the matter seriously and we have decided to organise the sessions for constables and junior officers,? said Batra.
He said the programme would be organised at the police stations because at any given point of time maximum number of constables and officers are present there.
?To overcome the hindrance of far-off posting of policemen, I have decided to rotate all the officers between their places of posting at regular interval from next month. This will give all of them a chance to attend the sessions and free themselves from the stress,? maintained Batra.
