Two more golds for India

Hyderabad: Hosts India won two more gold medals to take their tally to four on the final day as China claimed six out of nine yellow metals on offer in the 11th Asian Rowing Championship at the Hussainsagar Lake here on Sunday.

India struck gold in women’s light weight fours and light weight men’s eights to take the overall second spot.

Chinese domination continued as they finished on top with a haul of 12 gold medals while Kazakhstan was third with a solitary gold won on the last day.

Swathi Sanjay, Raji, Julee and Pravasini won the women’s light weight fours and finished ahead of Chinese Taipei to strike the first gold of the day.

In men’s eights, the hosts the hosts did not disappoint the holiday crowd and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi, who was the Guest of Honour.

They defeated Kazakhstan with a fine team effort displaying precision and pace.

Of the 17 gold medals at stake in the meet, China won 12, India four and Kazhkhstan one in the women coxless fours.

The hosts also won silver in men’s light weight doubles along with four bronze medals.
