Man wins race against machine

Jamshedpur, Oct. 16: A slice of tinsel town action descended on the steel city after a man, in his 30s, chased a car for almost 200 metres on the busy main road of Bistupur, right from Kamani Centre to the Ram Mandir area.

R.B. Mahato, who was on his two-wheeler along with his family, performed the scene from the Bollywood action stint to teach a lesson to a driver who was driving rashly in one of the busiest thoroughfares of the city.

The episode, which lasted for almost five minutes, mesmerised the onlookers, who watched the proceedings with bated breath.

It all happened around 5:30 in the evening when Mahato, along with his family on his two-wheeler, was negotiating the road near Kamani Centre, one the most well-known shopping complexes in the city.

All of a sudden, a Maruti (JH 11 A-3321), hit the two-wheeler from behind and fled from the spot.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident but Mahato, infuriated by the driver?s senseless driving, parked his scooter on the side of the road and started to run after the car, asking his family members to wait for him near the scooter.

The driver of the Maruti, meanwhile, had gone on and had slowed down his car at a red signal at Diagonal Road. But when he saw Mahato following his car, he flouted the traffic signal norms and sped his car through the traffic.

But that did not deter Mahato from chasing the car. Profusely sweating, he swiftly jumped into the moving car and somehow managed to perch himself on the car?s bonnet.

Though the driver of the car picked up speed to shake Mahato off it?s bonnet, Mahato was in no mood to give away.

It was at Ram Mandir area of Bistpur that some of the onlookers forced the car, which had four passengers besides the driver, to stop.

These four people, reportedly private security guards, managed to escape but people got hold of the driver and informed the Bistupur police station soon.

The police officials took about 15 minutes to reach the spot and detained the driver, Brajesh Singh, along with the car.

When asked about the daredevilry, the jubilant Mahato said: ?I wanted to teach a lesson to the reckless drivers on the road. I was furious when the driver hit my vehicle from behind without any fault of mine. It was only due to god?s grace that neither me nor my family members sustained any injuries. In a fit of rage, I rushed to catch hold of the car and I managed to succeed.?

The officer-in-charge of Bistupur police station, Shyamdev Singh, informed The Telegraph that a case of rash driving will be registered against the car driver, who also happened to be its owner.
