Sharad Suvro advances

Sharad Suvro Sarkar reached the second round in the boys' under-18 category of the Aarbur Calcutta Hardcourt Tennis Tournament beating Karamveer 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 at the Calcutta South Club on Tuesday. It took him two hours to finish the affair. Top seed Arpit Sharma also breezed through to the second round with 6-1, 6-0 win over Amartya Das.

TT meet

Excelsior's state ranking open table tennis meet will commence on Friday. Arup Basak, Anusree Saha will be the top seeds in the men's and women's sections, respectively. The meet sponsored by JCB India Limited will run till October 2. More than 225 paddlers will take part in the event.

Partnership Cup

Ranikuthi A defeated Esplanade A 5-1 in The Telegraph Partnership Cup Meet on Tuesday. Lake Town A overcame Howrah A by the spin of coin after both the sides were locked 7-7, and not as reported in Tuesday's edition. In another match on Tuesday, Barisha A defeated Ranikuthi B 3-0.

Other results ' Garia A bt Jadavpur A 4-1; Hazra B bt Barisha B 6-5 (via sudden death).

Safi to lead

Safi Ahmed will lead a 14-member Cricket Coaching Camp of Howrah Union squad to play a five-match series against Sports College of Lucknow from October 9-18.

The squad: Safi Ahmed (captain), Majid Khan, Ravi Gupta, Mujahid Hasan, N Akhtar, G Rabbahi, Himansu Singh, Abbu Sufiyan, Gurtej Singh, Varam Gupta, Rohit Pandey, Md. Javed, Raj Kumar Dubey, Kunal Chakraborty.
