Pension papers missing

Important documents of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation have gone missing. Officials said on Friday that the bank statements of the employees? pension accounts of 2003-04 could not be found during audit last month.

Sculptor taken ill

Sculptor Chintamoni Kar, 91, suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and was admitted to a private hospital on Friday. Hospital sources said Kar fell ill at his home in Narendrapur, on the southern fringes of the city, at 8 am.

Power demand

Power demand in the CESC area on Friday evening was the highest ever, officials said. The power utility met the demand ? 1,287 MW at 6.30 pm.

Illegal arms

A man was arrested in Garden Reach on Friday on charges of possessing illegal arms. Mohammed Hyder was arrested with a gun and several bullets.

Cancer therapy

Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals has introduced Radio Frequency Ablation therapy for treatment of hepatocellular cancer and tumours too risky to be operated upon. The Radio Frequency therapy uses alternate current of the radio frequency range, 200-1200 KHz.

Passenger hike

Eastern Railway has recorded a 10 per cent rise in the number of passengers carried in the first five months of the financial year. Officials said 33.76 crore passengers were ferried between April and August, against 30.71 crore in the the same period last year.
