Flood pact with Bangla

Dhaka, Sept. 19: India today agreed to boost cooperation with Bangladesh in early flood forecasting, reports our correspondent.

The agreement came on the first day of the two-day meeting of the Joint Rivers Commission of the two countries to which the Indian water resources minister, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, led a 13-member delegation.

“Getting early flood forecasting information from India will be very useful for us,” said the Bangladesh water resources minister, Hafizuddin Ahmed, who led the country’s delegation.

“We are discussing the other issues,” he said.

The commission reviewed the agreement that the countries signed on sharing the Ganga waters.

India rejected Bangladesh’s complaints that it was not getting its share of the river’s water as provided for in the agreement.
