Dhubri hit by artificial flood

Dhubri, Sept. 17: Unplanned road construction led to artificial flooding in Dhubri town, the worst-affected areas being Amco Road and ward number 12 where residents have been facing the scourge for the last six months.

Residents of the affected areas said the faulty construction of 1.3 km stretch between Aironjongla and Newghat is responsible for the flooding. The stretch does not have any outlet to drain out the accumulated rainwater as a result of which the entire area was inundated in April.

Since then, the residents in some areas have been living in knee-deep water.

The problem was not so acute before the construction work started as till then the rainwater had been flowing out to the Brahmaputra.

But trouble struck as soon as the road was completed, when the residents started facing the problem of artificial flooding.
