Ranchi, Sept. 15: Disgusted could the word used to describe the reaction of the special assembly committee that carried out a surprise inspection at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences this evening.
Earlier in the day, the panel had served showcause notices on the chief secretary, drinking water and sanitation secretary, health secretary and energy secretary for failing to attend its meeting, held to review whether the hospital had complied with its earlier orders.
During the inspection, the committee members decided to move a privilege motion against RIMS director Jagannath Prasad for providing ?wrong information? to the committee.
It is to be noted that the committee has already moved a privilege motion against the director for non-compliance.
During the inspection, the team found that necessary medicines like Dextro Normal Saline were denied to patients in the emergency, even though 156 bottles were lying in the store department. Besides, there were life-saving drugs that were not in the emergency, forcing patients to buy the medicines from outside.
When the members wanted to see the store of the emergency unit, they were not given the keys on the pretext that the sister-in-charge had taken them away.
Expired drugs were also found in the store but the officials claimed that they were waiting for the drug inspector to come before dumping them.
Irked, the team has demanded the suspension of the sister in-charge by 11 am tomorrow. Failure to do so would provoke them to recommend the suspension of the director, the members warned.
The committee also caught Dr A.K. Sinha carrying out private practice during duty hours.
By the end of it, the members had called another meeting and asked acting medical superintendent S.K. Chaudhary to fix the responsibility and inform the panel about the progress made by 11.30 am tomorrow.
