Imphal, Sept. 13: Manipur University will conduct trials for its football and judo teams, which will compete in various inter-university tournaments later this month, from September 15.

Altogether 35 probables have been called for trials for a berth in the university?s football squad that will play the East Zone inter-university football tournament to be held at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, in Jharkhand, from September 26.

The probables have been invited on the basis of recommendations of a selection committee deployed during the recent A. Pratap Singh Manipur University inter- college football tournament. The tournament was held at Moirang College.

The players have been asked to report to the university?s assistant director of sports, T. Inaobi, on Thursday at the Kamal Indoor Stadium on the campus.

The university has also invited 12 judokas to attend the trials to represent it in the all-India inter-university judo (men?s and women?s) tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at Amra- vati University, in Maharashtra, between September 25 and 28.

A selection committee recommended the names of the probables on the basis of their performances at the university?s inter-college judo tournament, which was organised at Manipur College recently.

All the judokas, too, have been asked to report to Inaobi on the same day as the footballers and at the same venue.
