Fastest star

A team from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics in the US has spotted the fastest moving stellar corpse till date ? a dense core of a massive star, dubbed B1508+55. Shami Chattrjee, a member of the team, says that the dead star, now moving at a speed of 1,100 km/sec, will eventually escape the Milky Way entirely.

A study published in the British Journal of Psychology says that men should be considered more clever than women. Psychologists at Manchester University have calculated that on an average women have about five less IQ points than men. It makes men better suited for “tasks of high complexity”, they claim.

Artificial lung

Scientists at the Imperial College London have converted human embryonic stem cells (which can give birth to all other cells of the body) into mature cells that line the small airway of the lung. It’s the first step towards building lungs for transplantation or to repair the damage done by incurable diseases like cancer, says the journal Tissue Engineering.
