Hosts shine in school aquatic event

Guwahati, Aug. 28: Anurag Sharma and Jyotirmoy Dey of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Barsajai and Longkiri Tisso of Miles Bronson Residential School bagged a gold each on the second day of the CBSE East Zone Swimming Championship at the Miles Bronson School here today.

Adyasha Hota of Maria?s Public School, Guwahati, Kaushik Kalita of Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya, Guwahati and Khuman Chutia of Srimanta Sankardev Academi, Guwahati, bagged a silver each today.

Abhigyan Bhuyan and Sahib Jain of DPS, Guwahati, Jishnu Jiban Baknah of Maria?s Public School, Bipasha Banikya of Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya and Nirangkush Kalita of Miles Bronson School won bronze.

The meet was inaugurated on Saturday by CBSE AEO (sports) Pushpak Vora. Altogether there are 25 schools from various east zone participating in the meet.

The other gold winners in the meet so far are Diptesh Chatterjee of Birla High

School, Calcutta, Swatti Bhatt of St Theresa School, Nainital, Akansha Joshi of DAV Centenary Public School Nainital, Vanya Chandel of SPESEC, Kanpur and Alisha Aharwal of Delhi Public School, Noida.

Kaifi Anis of St Theresa and Prasant Oli of DAV Centenary Public School also won a silver each apart from the Assam schoolboys.

Debanjana Bhattacharjee of Haryana Vidya Mandir, Calcutta, is the only swimmer from outside the Northeast to win a bronze.

Football trials: The Assam Football Association has invited 51 probables for trials at Silapathar, in Dhemaji district, from September 2. The state team for the Northeast zonal of the sub-junior national championship, to be held in Itanagar, will be selected from the participants at the selection camp.
