Railways gloss over train stop

Giridih, Aug. 21: The Rajdhani Express did stop at Parasnath, an unscheduled halt, on August 13 for 15 minutes, allegedly because a personal assistant of Railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav wanted to board it.

But the railway authorities have been quick to replace both the station manager and the register.

The new station manager at Parasnath, Umesh Pandey, feigns ignorance and points out that he is new to his post. Even the register is new and the entries begin on August 16. Therefore, he has does not know what happened on August 13. The Dhanbad divisional railway manager, A.K. Shukla, too, pleaded ignorance.

The elite Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express has no stoppage at all between Sealdah and Gaya. But the unscheduled stoppage on August 13 irked another VIP on board, RSP parliamentarian Abani Roy, who sent in a written complaint.

This was the third time the Sealdah Rajdhani made an unscheduled stop in the area in recent weeks. In June, police were tipped off about a live bomb lying on the track and hence the train was stopped while security personnel retrieved the bomb.

Three days after the August 13 incident, the train again made an unscheduled stop at Parasnath, this time because a mentally-challenged person had somehow managed to gain unauthorised entry into the train.
