Manmohan pledge not enough

Jamshedpur, Aug. 10: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh?s assurance in the Parliament today has apparently failed to soothe the frayed nerves of city?s Sikh community.

While one section has sought action against the guilty for instigating riots in October 1984, others want compensation for the poor Sikhs, who lost their means of livelihood during the massacre.

?Manmohan Singh?s assurance would carry meaning, if whatever he has said is followed in toto,? felt Harjit Singh, a businessman, after Singh assured the Parliament that the Nanavati Report would be reviewed and cases against the guilty would be reopened.

?We have heard several statements from the political leaders. I personally have doubts over his statement,? said Mukhtiar Singh, who works in a private factory.
