Priest dead

Burdwan, Aug. 8: The body of church priest William Kauri, 55, who went missing on Saturday, was found beside the railway tracks near Bainchi station in Hooghly last evening. The body bore several bleeding injuries.

Kauri, from Talcher in Orissa, lives in a rented house here. “He went out on Saturday afternoon to look for a house. Then he was supposed to visit the secretary of the church managing committee, Pradip Biswas. He was disturbed over some dispute over the church-owned lands,” said Malina, his wife.

Retirement

Calcutta: Advocate-general Balai Ray has filed a compliance report before Justice P.K. Roy of the high court and said his government had started paying retirement benefits to more than 1,100 employees of North Bengal State Transport Corporation.
