Family stands in IG support

Ranchi, Aug. 7: Absconding inspector-general of police, Chhotanagpur, P.S. Natarajan has invited criticism and flak from all fronts but one.

His family is backing him, certain that he has been trapped in a conspiracy.

After the tape showing Natarajan physically exploiting a tribal woman was made public, the suspended IGP?s family are on guard.

Natarajan?s brother in-law Gaurav refused to speak to the media.

Stopping this correspondent at the main gate of Natarajan?s Tupudana bungalow, he said: ?I don?t want to talk to you fellows. You people have made our life hell. Our friends and relatives have shunned us. No one wants to have any connection with our family now. You people shouldn?t have framed him.?

Wary after the incident, he was reluctant to open his mouth. But hesitatingly came out of the gate after repeated requests.

?After this incident, we are not going to invite any mediaperson inside the house. And my sister will not speak to anyone. All attempts are useless. Yesterday, I was manhandled by a group of youths who were demonstrating here,? he said.

Gaurav refused to believe anything shown on tape. ?We just cannot believe this. It is absolutely false and baseless. We have known him for more than 18 years now. And he has never faced anything like this. He has always been out of controversies. Whatever is shown in the tapes is wrong. And time will prove this,? he said.

Gaurav said everyone has labelled the IGP as a criminal before the final report of the tape.

?The tapes have gone to Chandigarh for verification. And how can one label him as bad without proof? We know that the report will be in our favour. It is then we will go out in the open and ask them questions,? he said.

Gaurav said Natarajan?s wife Rupa Natarajan also believes her husband is ?innocent. ?She also shares the same views. She knows that her husband has not done anything wrong. And she is always praying for his safety. I don?t want to say anything else,? he signed off before hurrying into the house.

Meanwhile, the police carried on interrogating two women today.

According to police officials, they have been getting valuable information from them.

?During interrogation, One woman has accepted that she had an affair with Natarajan. We are hoping to get some more information from her,? said a senior police official.

The police said the search for Natarajan was on. ?He could be anywhere from Patna to Delhi. We also have information that he might be in Chhattisgarh. We are making efforts to arrest him. We are also trying to catch hold of the woman?s husband, Rajesh Kujur,? added officials.
