Silchar U-14 meet kicks off

School football

Hailakandi, Aug. 3: Don Bosco High School, Goalpara, beat Govt Boys? HS School 5-0 in the inaugural match of the Pilik Choudhury (under-14) inter-district school football meet that kicked off in Silchar today.

In the second match, Howli High School, Barpeta, defeated Chamaguri H.S. Bani Vidyapith, Kamrup 2-1.

The contest between Bhak-atpur High School, Darrang and Basugaon High School, Chirang, where the former won 5-3 in tie-breakers, was the most interesting match today. The stipulated time of the match ended in a 1-1 draw with Pradip Boro scoring for Darrang and Tansum Basumatary equalising.

Public High School, Kari-mganj, rode a brace by Abhijit Choudhury to pip their NC Hills counterparts 7-0.

Bongaigaon beat Baska 3-0 while Algapur HS School, Hailakandi beat North Lakhi-mpur 2-1.

Altogether 14 out of 27 district teams arrived in Silchar today while the rest are expected by tomorrow. There will be nine matches tomorrow, which will include some second round matches. The quarterfinals will be played from August 5.

Local MLA Bimalangshu Roy inaugurated the tournament in the presence of director of sports Dhruba Hazarika, member-secretary of the state-level advisory committee for students and youth welfare, Kalyan Gogoi, Cachar DC Sunanda Sengupta and others.
