Double for Mohormala

Calcutta: Mohormala Mukherjee of Calcutta Girls clinched a ‘double’ at the Inter-school Badminton Championships, organised by Badminton Players Association of Bengal on Wednesday. Expectedly, she was also chosen best player of the tournament.

Mohormala won the under-14 and under-19 titles. She beat Subhra Dutta 11-1, 11-2 in the under-14 final and then overcame Ruma Ghosh 11-5, 11-5 in the under-19 section.

However, Mohormala’s good run was not enough to give Calcutta Girls victory in the team event. Narkeldanga Girls won 2-1. Mohormala and Sayani Ghosh lost the deciding doubles tie to Tithi Ghosh and Ruma Ghosh 4-11, 5-11.

St Augustine won the boys’ team event, defeating Andrews HS 2-0 in the final. Dipanjan Saha and Dipayan Saha faced little resistance from their opponents.

Ranjoy Das of Navagram Vidyapith won the under-14 boys title getting past Souvik Ghosh (Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ichhapur) 15-6, 15-8.

The under-19 boys’ title went to A. Tewari of SVS Englis School. He overcame Pushan Roy of Andrews 15-8, 15-9.
