Protest affects train services

Jamshedpur, July 10: Several political parties and social organisations disrupted the train services for many hours today protesting the withdrawal of the Tata-Katihar Link Express.

The trains under the Chakradharpur division and passing through Adityapur railway station was the most affected.

The railway ministry had recently restrained the movement of the Tata-Katihar Link Express, which connects the steel city with various parts of Bihar, especially Begusarai, Madhepura, Saharsa and other districts of Bihar.

Members of the Indian Congress party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Lok Janshakti Party, Rashtriya National Party and others, along with the non-government organisations, fanned out over the railway tracks and refused to let the passenger trains move.

Reports said the Tata-Barbil Passenger, Tata-Bilaspur Passenger and Tata-Alleppy Express were halted for a long time at Adityapur railway station. The agitators left the tracks after the Government Railway Police and the railway personnel intervened.

The district president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, P.N. Singh said the railways has stopped a train that links the steel city with Bihar.

?Hundreds of people are used to travelling in this train. Many who hail from the undivided Bihar have to come to the city for professional purposes. Stalling the services of such a train is not justified,? Singh said.

Suresh Dhari, district president of LJP, said the railways decision is against the interest of the people. ?The ticket fare of buses is rocketing every month. At least the fare of railway ticket is constant. The biggest sufferers would be the daily passengers,? Dhari said.

General secretary of Mithila Sanskritik Parishad, Jamshedpur, Ashok Avichal said the protesters were demanding a new train between Raipur and Darbhanga. ?If there is a direct train between Jamshedpur and Darbhanga, many regions of Bihar will be covered,? Avichal said.

He also hinted of a day?s bandh if their demands are not met.
