In celebration of Ratha Yatra, the annual car festival of Lord Jagannath, Swabhumi and Utkala, in collaboration with EZCC, Calcutta, and ministry of culture, government of Orissa, host a week-long Orissa festival, showcasing the best of the state?s art and culture. Commencing with the Ratha Yatra from Central Park, Salt Lake to Swabhumi, the Yatra is ultimately a celebration of universal brotherhood, the central philosophy of the ritual. To be inaugurated tomorrow, the Orissa festival comprises, besides Odissi dance and classical music, folk dances including Gotipua, Ravan Chhaya and Mayurbhanj Chhau. Strolling performances by folk entertainers with their interesting and amusing acts are sure to be a favourite among visitors of all ages. Also featuring an exhibition of traditional handloom and handicrafts of Orissa, like Odissi filigree, terracotta and dokra items, stone carvings, horn work, lacquer work, dress material and Sambalpuri sarees.
