Green sermon

Giridih, July 4: The chairman of the state pollution control board, Tilshwar Sahu, had some soul-searching comments for the managers of the erring industrial units here not following the required laws.

After inspecting the units he said ?your fortunes will not g with your (after death)? and ?You have to come face-to-face with God one day.?

Sahu had discovered that many units were operating without the mandatory no-objection certificate. He reassured the board does not want to close down any units ?but think about the environment and the people.?

He was not so forgiving when it comes to the lack of trees in the industrial area. Sahu made a strong pitch for tree-plantations and held out a threat as well. ?I have formed a flying squad comprising of unemployed youths, who will inspect your unit anytime,? he warned.

But the timing of the inspection is wrong, said the locals. Ramesh Rana, a resident of Manoharpur, explained ?The chairman obviosuly is not aware that with the advent of rains, pollution levels come down,? he said and added if Sahu had come last month things would have been bleaker.
