POETRY FESTIVAL

July 1 & 2 at Paschimbanga Bangla Academy; 5 pm: Souhardya Kabita Utsav, hosted by Souhardya 70. Featuring poetry-reading sessions by invited poets. Inauguration by Nirendranath Chakraborty.

PERFORMING ARTS

July 1 at Thakurpukur Cancer Research Centre (children?s ward); 11 am: Matri Social and Cultural Organisation presents a programme on ventriloquism puppet show for hospital patients. July 1 at Rabindra Sadan; 6 pm: A music programme to commemorate the birth centenary of Pankaj Mullick. Organised by the state government?s department of information and culture along with Rajya Sangeet Academy in association with Pankaj Mullick Music and Art Foundation. Participants include Sandhya Mukherjee, Sumitra Sen, Supriti Ghosh, Indrani, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Lopamudra Mitra, Nirmala Misra, Banasree Sengupta, Arundhati Holme Choudhury, Shampa Kundu, Sraboni Sen, Madhuri Chatterjee, Saikat Mitra, Subir Sen and Dwijen Mukherjee. July 1 at Gyan Manch; 6 pm: Ghungroo Nritya Kala Mandir presents Sawaan Aur Kathak featuring a felicitation to Dr Malabika Mitra to be followed by Kathak performance in group and a solo Kathak recital by Emelee Ghosh. July 1 at Swabhumi; 6 pm: Lekhak Shilpi Sammelan Cultural Troupe presents recitation and songs based on the writings of modern poets. July 1 at Tollygunge Club, HSBC Hall; 7.45 pm: Tollygunge Club, in association with Open Doors, presents Begum Bahar ? a tribute to Begum Akhtar through poetry, song and dance. July 1 at Prof. S.P. Chatterjee Memorial Hall, Department of Geography, University of Calcutta; 5 pm: The Geographical Society of India hosts the fourth Professor Kanan Gopal Bagchi Memorial Lecture. Speaker: Dr Sunanda Bandopadhyay, reader & former head, department of geography, Burdwan University. Topic: The Ganga Delta: Glimpses of Change. July 1 at Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Vivekananda Hall; 6.15 pm: Swami Prabhananda will speak in English on Chhandogya Upanishad. July 1 at Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, 19A & B Raja Rajkrishna Street; 7 pm: Dr Sasanka Bhusan Bandyopadhyay will speak ion Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.

WORKSHOP
